Does Black Ops have the greatest ending in video game history?

The Guinness Book of World Records has anointed Call of Duty: Black Ops with the greatest ending in video game history. You may want to let that settle in before you skip right down to the comments section to let us know how you feel, and hear out the rest of this.

The World Record overseers awarded the game the greatest ending ever, after polling around 13,000 "gaming fans". Apparently the 13,000 players found Black Ops, which was criticized heavily for it's lack of real substance in the story, to have the best game ending ever.

Since Guinness pretty much new that they were trolling the entire gaming community with this ridiculus "record", they did have this to say:

"Everyone has an opinion on how to end a game whether it's an epic boss fight, a clever plot twist or a 90-minute movie. This list recognizes some of the greatest endings and hopefully will get gamers talking about what are their favorites and why."

  @ that guy – all you’re looking at is the gameplay. the cinematic at the end left a clever cliffhanger. masons programming from dragovich still may have gone underway in which he may have actually assassinated his original target, john f kennedy. if he did we don’t know, at least until black ops 2 that is

The way MGS 4 wrapped up. With the final mech battle, the future of raiden, the fight with Liquid and anticipating snakes suicide. That ending had some real resolve. Now I’ve never played the BO campaign but if its anything similar to the track record shooters have had, there probably wasn’t much to write home about. In fact i don’t really know if I played a shooter where the ending really did a good job.

I do have to agree with the comment about Dead Space 2′s ending. It felt great to javelin that douche in the skull. Granted the final battle was a bit meh difficulty wise but it had narrative significance. Dead space 1′s ending was even cool as well. I actually thought the UC3 ending did a god job too. Point is, any narrative that games like battlefield COD crisis etc. can offer should be a mere afterthought to the likes of the games i just mentioned.

not gonna lie BF3 had a good ending. The ending was the only good part of the campaign though. I wasnt really interested until the last level.

My vote for best ending would be halo reach. Even though you knew everyone was going to die in the end it was still surprisingly depressing.

The end of resistance 2 was better than BLOPS it was awesome and a real shock but i can’t believe mass effect 2 isn’t the best ending . I can’t think of any other game that has you so emotionally invested in the characters then allows your choices to potentially kill them.

So yea my vote is for Mass Effect 2. an actual proper game instead of a reskinned piece of crap thats the gaming equivalent of paris hilton, famous for being famous but never actually does anything of worth

What an absurd claim. I mean personally, I think FFVII had the best ending, but that’s probably due to nostalgia and playing it at an impressionable age. But from a more objective point of view, I can say with certainty that black ops is not even within eyesight of any contender. Blops would be in the #400 to #500 range in determination of “best ending”. Why is guiness even making records for subjective bullshit like this. Oh, wait, to troll us and get hits on their stupid ass page. Fuck you guiness
