Call of Duty: Ghosts – Tips to master Cranked

This article is designed to give you a few tips to get the most of out the Cranked mode on Call of Duty Ghosts multiplayer. I’m sure you’re eager to get back to the Ghosts servers so I’ll get on with it; Cranked is a great way to level up, as it gives a lot of XP in a short time. It’s perfect for players that like to run and gun, but here’s how to get the most from your playtime;

30 Seconds is a lot

It might not seem like it, but 30 seconds is actually a deceivingly long amount of time between kills. This is especially true when you, and cranked enemies, have increased movement speed. Most people will panic as soon as they see the counter start in the corner after that first kill, and run out into the open in search of another.  Firstly, this needs to be avoided as it’s a sure-fire way to get gunned down quickly, and secondly; this itself is a reason why 30 seconds is plenty.

If everyone on the other team sprints into the open out of desperation, then they’ll be easy prey for you if you take things more calmly. Teaching yourself not to sprint everywhere like a madman does put you in danger of exploding and dying if you can’t get a kill or assist in the 30 seconds admittedly. However, I would say that I only die from exploding once in every three matches, whereas I run into a gunfight that I can’t win 2 or 3 times per match if I’m not careful.

Don’t mistake this tip. I’m not telling you to camp, not to move around the map or generally be too cautious. Keep moving around, but check your corners and look at corners of the map where players are most likely to be, like windows and stairs.

Pick fast firing weapons

Cranked is a very fast-paced game mode. As a result, it’s a wise idea to take a weapon that can keep up. SMGs and Assault Rifles with a high rate of fire are preferable to using Snipers or Marksmen Rifles. I recommend the MTAR-X or Bizon is you want to use an Submachine  gun, and the FAD or ARX-160 if you would prefer an Assault Rifle.

Good attachment choices include Laser Sight to increase hip fire accuracy (goes well with Steady Aim perk), Rapid Fire to kill enemies even quicker, and a muzzle attachment. Depending on your playstyle, it’s a good idea to use either Muzzle Break or Suppressor.

Choose your Perks carefully

There are more perks that ever in Call of Duty Ghosts, so it’s even more difficult to know which to pick now. Hopefully this will give you a bit of an advantage. When you get a kill and become cranked, you are given the Speed perks. I suggest making a class loadout that doesn’t have any of them in therefore, as they don’t stack. What does this mean?

Well, if you put Sleight of Hand into your loadout, when you get a kill and become cranked, you won’t reload even quicker than you did before. So the less Speed perks (ones in the first row) you choose the better, as it will maximize the benefit of becoming cranked.

Perks that are very useful include Steady Aim and Hardline. The first one means that, especially with SMGs, you rarely had to ADS. You can run around the map and hip fire accurately, making your movement even quicker. Having Hardline is an added bonus, because getting two assists will count as an extra kill, which extends your timer before explosion.

Final tips

The last few tips I have are;

  • Don’t choose Specialist Strike Package – it’s a waste of time for this game mode as you’re given so many perks anyway.
  • Don’t use killstreaks instantly – I know it’s tempting to use that Sat-Com as soon as you get it, but it will often get you killed and wastes about 5 seconds of your valuable 30.
  • Experiment – one of the tips above not working for you? Try a different one! If the MTAR-X doesn’t suit you then try one of the other guns I suggested.

I hope you found this guide helpful on your way to mastery of the Call of Duty Ghosts multiplayer. If you think I missed anything then feel free to leave a comment, or if you’d like to ask any questions; do the same and I’ll try and get them answered for you.
