3G Vita vs WiFi only Vita

Which model is superior?

The PS Vita has some interesting tech, and is definitely an awesome handheld system.  There’s a good roster of games in the pipeline as far as releases; Uncharted: Golden Abyss, LittlebigPlanet, MLB: The Show 12, and many more in the up and coming months that will prove to be great games.  However, the $249.00 price point is definitely a little steep for some people, especially if you consider that is for the Wi-Fi only model.  In reality though, the Wi-Fi model is the only version of the Vita you would want to pick up.

Why? It’s really simple in reality.

3G Vita- $299.99.  On top of this extra 50 bucks just to have the 3G accessibility, you’ll have to make a decision on your 3G service plan. With 3G plans of 250MB and 2GB they’ll run you $14.99 and $24.99 respectively. Thankfully there aren’t contracts for the 3G service, but it’s pricey nonetheless.  Sure, you can then surf the web and download from wherever on this mobile network, but the best way to go would be to get the…

Wi-Fi Vita – $249.99.  You can connect to any Wi-Fi hotspot via the Vita.  So there is really no reason to spend extra money up front to get the 3G model, and then pay per month to a service provider.  You could instead, for the same amount per month, sign a contract for a mobile hotspot.  A hotspot is a device that creates a Wi-Fi zone wherever you have this little unit (and I mean small, like fits in your palm small).  You could then connect not only your Vita wherever you went, but any other devices you may have.  You could connect your console, PC, whatever it may be, for less than the alternative.

So anyone who may be considering purchasing the Vita, seriously think about the differences. There’s absolutely no reason to spend the extra cash when all you get is less accessibility. Just purchase the Wi-Fi model, sign up for a Mobile Hotspot plan (Verizon has good prices on their 4G LTE internet, and it works great), and you’ll be good to go.  Anywhere, anytime, from any device.

For $50 less, too.
