The Batman Arkham series introduced one of the best new combat systems of the generation. Rocksteady’s first two Batman titles were critically acclaimed for these systems, among other things. But WB Montreal wants to make it clear that Batman: Arkham Origins will not be a button masher when it comes to combat.
Speaking with IGN, Ben Mattes a producer on Origins explained that the development team is hoping to expand on the countering and uses of gadgets in the game.
“It’s not enough to just mash the buttons and coutner once in a while… we want you to be doing quick-fire gadgets, dodges, grapples, slams, the works; we want you to be getting 50-60 hit combos.”
These 50-60 hit combos were definitely possible in the previous games, and were mandatory for scoring well in the Batman Arkham Challenge Mode. We’ll have to wait and see just what will be new about WB Montreal’s combat system than previous games when Batman: Arkham Origins arrives in October for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC.
