Mortal Kombat released this morning to critical acclaim and with all of the speculation behind us, we’ve found that PS3 owners indeed got what they were promised in Kratos as an exclusive character.  But many Xbox 360 owners were left with a sour taste in their mouths when they found nothing exclusive to their console.  Ever since the announcement of Kratos in the PS3 version of the game, speculation brewed as internet-goers postulated on the possibilities of Marcus Fenix or Master Chief making a cameo in NetherRealm’s soon to be classic fighter.

A video of the Green Lantern surfaced that made for an odd addition to the game, which many thought may become a reality.  The reality of it is, that Mortal Kombat for Xbox 360 has no unlockable exclusive characters.  It wasn’t because Ed Boon didn’t want to however.  In a recent interview with Eurogamer, the MK9 Developer told of circumstances that arose that made the non-inclusion a reality.

“Unfortunately, the circumstances didn’t allow us to make a 360 exclusive,” he said.
“I’m not allowed to talk too much about it, but I can tell you we certainly wanted to do an exclusive for 360, but that’s all I can say. It was not a decision we made where we said, oh, let’s not do one for the 360.”
“Anybody who’s really knowledgeable about the Xbox video games, the big titles, names like Master Chief from Halo, Marcus Fenix from Gears of War, and any other Xbox exclusive title, is going to come up in a conversation in talking about it. So clearly we’ve discussed it.
But, like I said, it wasn’t something we decided, no, we don’t want to make a 360 version of a character.”
