The Crew now available for pre-order on Steam

The Crew, an open world action/driving MMO hybrid in development by Ivory Tower, Ubisoft Reflections and Asobo Studio is soon to be released on Playstation 4, Xbox One, Windows PC and…Xbox 360. Initially announced as a ‘revolutionary action-driving game developed exclusively for next gen consoles and high end PCs’, publisher Ubisoft did a backflip and decided to hit the still massive Xbox 360 market with it as well. As we talked about previously, it isn’t coming to Playstation 3 or Wii U because the Xbox 360 is closer to this generation’s technical infrastructure, making it an easy target for a painless cash grab port.

The Crew is going to be much the same across all platforms, with a focus on open world free roam cruising across the United States – which will take you 90 minutes to traverse coast to coast. Some features include a 20 hour single player campaign, seamless multiplayer integration with up to 8 players at once, no loading screens or pauses and an accompanying car building app for Android and iOS. The name of the IP is derived from the in game focus of players being able to form Crews and race together or against ‘ghost’ records. Creative Director Julian Gerighty has referred to the game as an RPG with large-scale multiplayer defining elements.

On Steam, The Crew Standard Edition is $74.95 US, which includes a free upgrade to the Limited Edition and guaranteed Closed Beta access if purchased before August 25th, whilst The Crew Gold, currently $94.95 US (RRP $104.95) includes the Limited Edition and the Season Pass.

It is yet to be made available for digital pre-purchase on the Playstation Store or Xbox.com. The expected North American release date is November 11th, with the European release coming November 14th.
