Destiny: The Taken King released a few weeks ago along with the big Destiny 2.0 update that greatly changed up the game for the better. One of the biggest changes is going to be coming and that is how they will be handling DLC, which will also include microtransactions.
Destiny across its first year had two smaller DLC expansions with Dark Below and House of Wolves, but had its first major expansion with Destiny: The Taken King. Those first two DLC sets were released for a cost, but it sounds like Bungie is moving towards a very different model moving forward.
As revealed through Bungie’s blog, Destiny will institute microtransactions moving forward, but instead of them being a big deal that could spark a lot of controversy, these are being implemented in a much better way it sounds like.
These microtransactions are said to be simply cosmetic additions like emotes, rather than the types of microtransactions that make people very angry. This will be done through the Eververse Trading Store, so it will be easy to get these new emotes.
In much better news, Bungie says the money made from these will be used towards new events and other DLC going forward, which is great news. Hopefully this will provide some free story DLC along the way, but there’s really no way to tell just what we’ll be getting yet.
