The Diablo 3 Starter Edition is now free to play for everyone. The limited version of RPG will allow players to fight their way up to level 13 before having to pay for anything. The starter edition will let you see a peek at the story of Act I. You’ll be able to fight your way through Tristam all the way up to the first major boss of the game: The Skeleton King.
You can unlock the starter edition on Battlenet through the Your Games Menu in your account on the network. If you don’t have a Battlenet account, you’ll need to create one to access the content. Blizzard does note that if you decide to take the plunge into the world of Diablo, all the experience that you earn and loot that you find will carry over into your purchased version of the game, allowing you to pick up right where you left off.
Blizzard is also preparing the launch of a massive patch for Diablo 3 with patch 1.0.4. As explained earlier, the patch will address some end game problems, legendary items, magic items, and other content that is fundamental to expanding the Diablo 3 experience.
