Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue is scheduled for release later this year exclusively for PS4, which will be bringing not only Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance to consoles, but also a continuation of Birth By Sleep and a cinematic version of Kingdom Hearts χ on one disc. Birth By Sleep 0.2 is the only completely new experience here and it sounds like it could be more than many are expecting.
Kingdom Hearts 0.2 Birth By Sleep is a follow-up to the end of Birth By Sleep where Aqua finds herself in the Realm of Darkness, which really hasn’t been explored outside of the extra Final Mix segment in the original Birth By Sleep.
This new “game” will be essentially be like a demo for Kingdom Hearts 3, with it running the same engine as Kingdom Hearts 3. It was previously said to be about the length of one world in a usual Kingdom Hearts game. However, in an interview with Famitsu, which has been translated by KH Insider, series producer Tetsuya Nomura revealed that it will be a good bit longer.
Nomura explained that he initially said the length of the one world during development, but after playing through it, it’s substantially longer. More specifically, he revealed we will be seeing more than one world in 0.2 as well.
“After the part you played in the demo, you enter Cinderella’s castle and find yourself in a different world, and leaving that brings you to yet another world, that’s how it is.”
It is great news to hear that this is longer than we originally expected and may see some brand new worlds possibly, though we could also see some retreads as well. That’s something we’ll have to wait and learn more about as we get closer to the release of Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 when it releases this December worldwide.
