Mojang has today announced that this weekend they will be giving away 12,000 free trials for Minecraft Realms, their subscription based server service.
Minecraft Realms is a dedicated service that Mojang provides gamers, for a subscription fee, which allows up to 10 people to play together on Minecraft. Realms can store three separate worlds per account and will regularly back up the game world so no content is lost. In case something goes wrong, for instance a player being too enthusiastic with TNT, Realms also offers a previous save feature.
According to Owen Hill, the Mojang ‘Chief word officer’, fans do not need to worry about the giveaway commenting that “There’s no catch whatsoever! Literally none!” Currently only available for the PC version of the game Minecraft Realms costs from €8/£6.40/$10.40 a month. Mojang are keen to point out that gamers can get a cheaper rate, by subscribing for longer periods of time.
To obtain one of the free 14 day trials of Minecraft Realms follow these simple steps. Over the weekend load Minecraft, select Minecraft Realms and then, if available, click the link offering the free trial. Every hour, from 11 am UTC on Saturday until 11am on Sunday, 500 trials will be up for grabs to allow gamers from around the world equal chance.
