More ways to dress up your Xbox Live Avatar, for a price

Microsoft has just added a new way to customize your Xbox Live Avatar.  You can now purchase tattoos to differentiate yourself from the millions of other Xbox Live members not willing to take that plunge of plunking down cash for virtual goods.  The tattoo skins that are available for download include kanji style writing, flames, and tribal markings to appeal to those that want to better represent their tatts, to their Xbox Live friends and foes.

The prices for the virtual goodies range from 160 - 240 Microsoft Points, and for your purchase, you won't just be getting a tattoo.  You'll also get a fancy wife-beater tank top, or white undershirt to go along with it.  Since all the tattoo patterns come with a shirt, you can't mix and match your new ink with any of the shirts in your wardrobe.

This new addition comes on the heels of Microsoft removing guns from the Xbox Live Avatar Marketplace to begin the new year.

Sure it’s just $2.00-$3.00, for a “virtual” item. Why not? You are already paying for online play on the console you paid $300 for without blu ray or a browser.

And all this just for some tats on your “Mii HD”. It’s okay – we all like to piss out hard earned cash – and especially love to let m$ have their way with our wallet and or Mommy

      Allen

You said it was “cheap” I just had to comment :-)

Sure, so is $5/month of online play, but in 5 years you pissed out $300 needlessly. And coming from someone that bought a lot of stuff on Star Trek Online, those “Virtual” items are worthless, they’ll just keep coming out with a minor new change every few months to keep you buying uselss “virtual” junk. Its almost free product for them yet you pay real world $ for it.

      Okay; okay…sorry I attacked you

      $250 dollars in 5 years for Psn+

      $50 Per year Psn+

      $4.2 Per month

$300 dollars in years for Xbox Live

      $60 Per year XBL

      $5 Per month

Does that make any difference? Ofcource not so stop wih that 5 year theory of yours. I mean a friggin 10 year old can afford XBL for a year.

Ive had Xbox Live for half a year with only a cost of $3

Look, its peoples choice if they want to buy these stupid tatoos. Leave them alone.

BTW: I never buy any DLCs for any game because I think theyre just a money grab.

    • avatar
      Allen

I pick and choose my DLC very carefully.

But there is a huge difference in Xbox live and PS+

Xbox live – Needed to do anything other than play single player games or watch DVD’s

***I will admit that the new services seem to be adding (per you) good services, but still you can’t sub to netflix or hulu, you can’t visit youtube, facebook or twitter even without paying m$ first.

PSN – Of course is Free, full browser, free online play, PS store, ps home, life with playstation. Bunch of stuff, even free games and movies.

PS+ is optional and yes, compared to Xbox live it is only slightly cheaper. But we get huge discounts on great games and map packs. Everyone blew it off but PS+ users get full version of Red Dead Redemption + Undead nightmare for only $24.99, at least $10 cheaper than xbox live right there and that was only the discount of one game for one month. PS+ users get all sorts of free maps and DLC and free games, premium avatars, themes, exclusive stuff it’s way worth it.

It’s a huge difference and PS+ if you can’t pay a month or whatever your billing cycle is then that’s okay. The only thing you can’t do is play the free games until you pay for PS+ again. Everything else you got still and of course you can still play online if you don’t pay for PS+.

Look, I already apologized. Let’s just end it here for today.

When you talk about entertainment received for dollar spent, its pretty cheap.

    • avatar
      Allen

What are you talking about? Xbox live or these Avatar virtual items?

    • avatar
      Cool dude

Dont brag about Ps home. Seriously.. Its not worth it.

You do understand that Xbox Live has invested millions dollars towards the indie developers to release exclusive titles. And you do understand that Indie and arcade games release earlier in XBL than PSN. Look at LIMBO, Child Of Eden, Castle Crashers and etc. All big success and they all released later on other plat forms. Even going as late as one year. We also get a bunch of free add-ons for indie games and arcade games. Such as the free Fruit ninja Kinect DLC for christmas. Even the infamous Minecraft is only supporting one console because MS invested on Mojang. And dont forget that we gate free trials on EVERY game that weve got on XBL market place.

As for discounts. We got half priced off HUGE titles DAILY during the countdown to Christmas. Nice to see that one title got discounted off in PSN store. But that is only one title youve mentioned.

If you want to talk about entertainment. UFC might have been a fail but the people who watched the fight got the ticket for FREE at the first place. It was issued for FREE by MS. (Probably becausthey knew it wasn’t gonna go the right way). Plus we get from 3 entertainment company support to 50 entertainment company support. And I dont think any platforms this gen even went anywhere close to that much support.

look, I knw that you have already apologized but I just wanted to clear things up here. I hope that this sinks in to your head and I dont want you to bring up another XBL vs PSN. It seems that we just going around circles here which is very irritating. Same things are getting brought up every time. Its getting tiring and stupid.

A113n how many times are going to beat that dead horse? We all know how much you HATE Xbox and the fact that we pay to play and that xbox has no browser . As for netflix, hulu, youtube, facebook or twitter I could care less about them being on Xbox because in todays world you get them on all most every entertainment mobile device available, Heck my blue ray player and TV now have apps to connect to them, this world is just gone app crazy.

Wait I think the horse just started to get up…………. Nope it was just a really bad rag doll effect its still dead. Damm game glitches.

      Allen

Please give some examples of the “huge” discounts of “great” games you get on xbox live.

      Because I call BS

Also do you even hear what you are saying? Xbox invested in Indie games? Really?

Because I thought Indie gameswere Independent video games created by small groups or even just one person without pubslisher/developer financial support.

    • avatar
      Cool dude

      Indie game dev support…

“The biggest change is the increase in the size limit for the games from 150mb up to 500mb, more than a three time increase. Developers can now have the minimum price tag of 80 Microsoft Points (MSP) on games of up to 150mb, instead of just 50mb. Each developer can now release 20 games to the channel, up from 10 before.”

I doubt PSN allows that much storage for an indie game. 500mb. And for one dollar, games can be uploaded with the memory as big as 150mb now. While PSN offers less. And Increased amount of games allowed to be offered by indie devs by 100%.

      Anther one:

“The Independent Games Festival (IGF) has signed a deal with Microsoft to award one entrant to the event a massive boost on both the Xbox LIVE Arcade and Windows Phone platforms.

To summarzie, a panel will select one game from the event which will then will be given ‘first-party’ publishing rights, and if they desire it, funding if their title is not yet finished. The XBLA Prize, the name of the award, will first be given out on May 7th, at the IGF awards ceremony that will take place at the Game Developers Conference in California.

We’ve tracked indie development across the various gaming platform that Microsoft supports, and the trend appears to be clear: Microsoft is determined to increase it. Examples that corroborate this, and these are the first that come time mind, include the company’s embracing of people tinkering with the Kinect, and its support of Windows Phone unlocking.

Small steps remain short, and this prize, while interesting and impactful to some, will only boost development activity so much. However, according to Gamasutra, the company has admitted to investing some $20 million yearly into the Xbox LIVE Arcade, a sum that cannot be ignored.”

    • avatar
      Allen

      Ah whatever, still say BS.

So where were these “HUGE” discounts on AAA games. And you better fking bring something as good as Red Dead to that huge discount list.

Red Dead is easily one of the best games of this generation and that won’t change. I await to see what pitiful piece of $hit game you get a discount on for pissing out $60/year to xbox live.

    • avatar

Yeah, LETS TAKE AWAY THE BROWSER FROM THE IPHONE, we got that on our computer. What’s the point? Oh convenience? Technology? Advancment?

I love how Allen tries to justify his spending on the Playstation. His free games he talks about are PS1 games from 12 years ago that nobody plays. Allen you hate Xbox, we get it, now move on with your life. Apparently none of us care how much Xbox live costs because we keep paying for it. Just because we are wealthy and you are poor doesn’t mean the service is stupid. The fact that you spend countless hours on the Internet trying to tell people how stupid Xbox live is just shows how pathetic your life really is. Get over it, and don’t pay for it if you don’t want it.

    • avatar
      Allen

A lot more than just PSone classics, each month is filled with PSN games or full PS3 games, PSone classics and free mini’s. Plus all the game and dlc discounts

      http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/12/05/playstation-plus-december-preview-free-tomb-raider-underworld-and-marvel-pinball-more/

For December it was Tomb Raider: Underworld, back in Septeber there were 3 full free PSN games.

    • avatar
      Cool dude

The catch is that everyting that you buy for free will be unplayable as soon as your subscription is expired. Next thing you know, your paying more than you get discounted for unless you stay in PS+ longer and is willing to overload your Ps3 with games as they come.

    • avatar
      Allen

      Bla ha ha!

oh yeah. the thing about Xbox is as soon as you don’t pay them then YOU CAN’T DO A FREAKING THING!

And yeah…it’s actually kind of nice for PS+ all these free games, every week. Ah you can’t pay one month! That’s okay. You still have all your DLC & highly discounted purchases you got and then when you can re-subscribe you will have all those free games again.

So much better than HAVING to pay for online play that is FREE everywhere else.

Not to mention all the EA games Xbox gamers will have to pay for online passes on. Why? Because Xbox live isn’t paying for the servers you game on. It only pays Xbox to do nothing.

Oh after makin 1.5 BILLION dollars EVERY YEAR for the past 6 years, they are bringing some pay to sub services to xbox. I haven’t seen proof of any FREE silver subs to $hit.

    • avatar

      Cool dude

And how would you know that? Do you even own a 360?

      No I didnt think so.

Same goes for you. You say the same “Banbox Live” thing over and over again.

    • avatar
      Allen

      Actually he has a point.

25 million gold members, some pay monthly which is $120/year instead of $60 so you can at least count on an average of $60/year for each person, $1,500,000,000/year. Yet you can’t have exclusive content or free games, or free map packs or even near the huge discount PS+ gamers get on awesome games like the Red Dead Pack I was talking about. I paid $60 for Red Dead and don’t even have the undead nightmare. Now I could get it all for only $24.99. That’s just crazy, and the fact that xbox gold members still have to pay $10 more than us just for that one title.

That’s weird since you have to pay way more than we do and that you already don’t have the exclusive content we do, never the less m$ has no care in the world that you are stuck with old DVD tech, swapping disks on the console who’s reputation has been one of massive overheating & disk scratching because those money whores at M$ were too cheap to put at $0.25 plastic buffer in there to hold the DVD in place. Never the less they were too cheap to put it in the redesigned slim too!

Anyways, I don’t care to start another fight. But there is no denying the truth.

    • avatar
      Allen

oh and the banbox is just funny.

In 2011 alone there were 3 seperate instances of bannings on Xbox including one of them caused by one of your exclusive games. Then of course there was all the personal information, gamer tags and paypal information, along with peoples microsoft points being taken and used to buy stuff for games they don’t even own.

I say that compared to the PSN down time of only 3 weeks, which is the only thing that really happend to PS3 or PSN in all of 2011, that Xbox is the one that got pwned. Not one of Sony’s customers lost money, yet it’s very apparent that Xbox gamers not only lost money, but personal information was confirmed to be stolen and that thousands of users were banned!

    • avatar
      Cool dude

Really? Cuz I thought few hundred were affected in banning and was refunded with $70 freebies in XBL while PSN had 75 million accouns compromised while being out of service for 3 weeks….

You do understand that the incident is only limited to FIFA 2012? None of the compromised accounts were outside that game. Therefore I wouldnt call it a compromise but a phising incident. And you do understand that any stolen money was FULLY refunded by MS even though they knew it was the consumer’s fault of being compromised and not the XBL servers.

“I got an email from Microsoft saying I had purchased 10,000 points. I immediately tried to get on my Xbox, and found that I couldn’t sign in,” another victim, Zackh Mackey, tells us. “I checked my credit information online, and sure enough, there were charges tied to the points. I called customer support and they locked my account for a month to investigate. This happened back in early November.”

Can you see whats wrong in this phising victim?

The alleged hacker Purchesd 10000 MS points in one instance. Proffesional hackers who can penetrate security dont do this. Proffesional hackers purchase points sell information and never use it hemselves so that they wont be detected.

PSN is every bit as good, actually better than my PC gaming online.

Only better because it takes all my games and runs it through one service which allows me to interact with friends and chat. Never could do that on all games for PC.

But in terms of lag, disconnects and quality. PSN is every bit as good, surprising the hell out of me that I got the same quality gaming online wirelessly as I did on my PC hooked up with ethernet. Before I tried it I thought the wifi was for minor things only, not gaming online wirelessly.

Sorry cool dude – my comment was to reality because he was saying how crappy PSN was. I didn’t take offense to what you said; it’s just your opinion and or experience.

But I gotta say – PSN is better than XBL. Cross game chat/party chat just don’t mean anything to me.

Why can’t you just go to the site?

Most of the free map packs are PS3 exclusives, makes sense. Can’t give DLC away for free on all multi plat games. But they do heavily discount multi plat map packs. Just like the Red Dead & Undead bundle.

      With all do respect:

I know your point of view. I understand but I believe that your missing the point here.

We are talking about features here. More features hence better service. Get it?

Having 512mb cloud storage, Cross game chat, able-to-Background download, trials and Demos available for EVERY game and Free Private TV shows (5 free programs). Plus having more entertainment apps (50 apps actually) coming to Xbox Live and a more active community (http://bf3stats.com/).. look at global stats.

They all make me think where my money is going. And I think its.. *gulp*.. worth it….

      I know what you think.

      Allen:

“I mean playing online doesnt have to COST anything! Why pay for that POS rip-off Xbox Live?? $300 per five years.. blah blah blah…”

      Cool dude:

“Xbox Live is more than online gaming specially now”

BTW.. I did check out the site and it had some decent discounts on it. But dont brag about that full game.

The game is not even that good and its pretty old. Plus I can get that game for $3 Australian.

Tip Friendly tip: just buy the game from Ebay instead of downloading it with 10-15gb. Save those internet space for online BF3.

What game are you talking about? They give new stuff away all the time, looking back throughout this last year and it’s quite impressive what PS+ users have gotten either for free or those high discounts.

Also I have download in background available and I don’t even have PS+ so not sure what you are talking about there.

And bringing features to the table 6 years after the fact…yeah, and it’s not like sony isn’t adding features all the time, it’s already got tons of everything + unlimited in the browser.

Xbox live is a decent service…but it should not cost as much as it does. I’ve always sayd props to xbox for innovating online play.

I was talking about that tomb raider game.

      Anyway.

Imagine xbox live still existing without the requirement of pay to play. Its still the same subscription service, same content but just without online play req.

Ok, even without the requirement of pay to play. Xbox Live still offers almost everything. And when you count per dollar spent and compare it to how much content you have access to after that. Xbox Live is pretty cheap. Some would even call it a bargain.

Plus, if you think about it. Ps+ only offers purely offers gaming deals and nothing more.

While Xbox Live offers free TV (Zune, BBC iview, Disney XD, etc.), free movies (Blinkbox 10000 titles), Live stream TV (UFC, Verizon) and gaming deals.

So, me, someone who owns a PS3 and plays on PSN, I’m just talking outta my ass when I say that PSN has twice the lag, and three times the wait for downloads? Though that’s all through first hand experience with a 20mb down, 5mb up internet connection, with a speedtest.net A rating.
I know that you are lying when you say you never lag on PSN, that is downright impossible. PC lags, Live lags, but no where near as much as PSN.
PSN is a POS, that’s why I rarely play on it.

Every online game has some sort of lag. There are so many variables. Your connection, the server, other users online, interruptions in signal strength.

But no, I generally see no lag on either my PC or my PS3. First day of BF3, there was lag everywhere, tanks chucking up hills, you would take 2 steps forward and 3 steps back. Jumping over the same obstacle 3 times. But that was only the first day and it’s been flawless since (besides my own cable internet losing signal and kicking me out of matches). But since I changed to DSL I haven’t been booted once. But I knew that, I had DSL forever and only cable for a couple months because DSL were being dicks.

I do respect your own personal experience and opinion, but I don’t understand it.

Before i went to cable I only had 1.5mbps, but could still game wirelessly with router 25 feet away. That’s freaking crazy, I had no lag and it was just as good as back in the day on PC when I had 3mbps on ethernet.

Now I got 8mbps DSL and for my area it’s way better than cable (hence the disconnect issues). Freaking pwning now and yes, i do realize that’s a low service speed by today’s standards. But I’m a cheap ass and 8mbps is 2mbps faster than minimum recommended for gaming.

Like reality said, psn download situation is a joke, wait 5 to 10 minutes to download a demo then another 5 to 10 minutes to install, and hopefully you can install in the background or your ps3 is useless. Wow, the stuff sony fans put up with to save $ 4 a month.

I agree with Cull Dude–the price difference is marginally similar…but I really with the ten year olds couldn’t afford it. The kids are ruining the online gaming experience.
