Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Video Shows Mega Evolutions, Free Shiny Metagross, and More

While the existence of three new Mega Evolutions for Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire was leaked a couple of days ago via Japanese magazine scans, we now have a great look at the new Mega Evolved Pokemon in action with Nintendo’s latest video. Mega Altaria, Mega Salamence, and Mega Lopunny are all featured in the trailer with in-game footage showing their transformation. That wasn’t all that got revealed in the video though.

Various in-game contests were unveiled that seem to focus on aspects other than simple battles. From what little was shown it seems like you are trying to impress the audience, or judges with your Pokemon’s overall look and skill. If you get the crowd happy enough your Pokemon might even Mega Evolve for them.

The video also announced that the cosplay Pikachu we reported on earlier will be able to be used in battle like a regular Pokemon. It looks like you will have a ton of costumes to choose from for your Pikachu, allowing a lot of customization for the always popular character.

Another newly announced feature is that horde encounters will make it into Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire. These fights debuted in previous Pokemon titles, but were not in the original Pokemon Ruby & Sapphire that the new games are based on. In a horde fight you are confronted with a large number of wild Pokemon all at once. Defeating or catching them requires very different strategies than a normal wild Pokemon fight.

Finally the video reveals how you will get your very own Shiny Mega Metagross. Starting on November 21st a Shiny Beldum will be offered via an in-game special event. Download him and you’ll find that he is holding a Mega Stone. Once you have evolved him to his final form of Metagross you’ll have the Mega Pokemon that everyone was talking about last month.

Pokemon Omega Ruby and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire will be released on November 21st exclusively for Nintendo 3DS and 2DS.
