2011 is just around the corner for the PS3 owners. This coming year Sony has got a tremendous opportunity to reach a lot more gamers by offering a diverse selection of console exclusive titles on the PlayStation 3. As you can see below, the console will be offering a wide variety of gaming experiences from the most hardcore of FPS titles like Killzone 3, to titles specifically designed for it’s new PlayStation Move controller like Sorcery. With so many great titles coming for the PlayStation 3 in 2011, it’s going be hard to pick and choose. So start saving your pennies now, there are plenty of games to choose from, and these are just the games exclusive to the PS3.
Mass Effect 2 – Bioware – RPG – January 18th, 2011
Mass Effect 2 is the sequel to BioWare’s hit space-based role-playing game, Mass Effect. The first release in the Mass Effect franchise available for play on the PlayStation 3 platform, Mass Effect 2 is a single player third-person oriented adventure that allows players to experience the adventures of the fully customizable series hero Commander Shepard, as you take on a whole new adventure and a new cast of supporting characters. PS3 specific features include: a digital comic providing backstory and customization details related to the first game in the series which was not available for PS3, six hours of bonus missions in the form of three previously released DLC releases and access to all additional game content published to date on the Cerberus Network.

Killzone 3 – Guerrilla Games – FPS – February 22, 2011
Killzone 3 is the fourth release overall in the PlayStation 3 exclusive first-person shooter franchise, and contains the first integration of the PlayStation Move system into its gameplay. In it players continue the fight by a futuristic special ops team against the seemingly unstoppable Helghast Empire. Along the way players will learn more than ever before about the rabid Helghan culture, as well as become aware of an internal struggle in their ranks that may prove to be an important weakness. The game features full Playstation Move system integration throughout the game — including the Move and Navigational controllers. Additional features include: the ability to carry two primary weapons, new melee and jet pack functionality and online multiplayer support.

Resistance 3 is a full-featured adventure shooter based in a brutal alternative universe in which humanity is faced with a struggle for survival against a relentless alien race in a decimated America.
The Last Guardian – Team ICO – Adventure – TBA
The Last Guardian‘s story follows that of a yet-named boy that is trying to escape from a setting resembling the ruins of a large expansive castle. The game will revolve around the developing friendship between the boy and a giant, feathered creature resembling a griffin named Trico. Trico has spears and arrows stuck in its back, and is initially bound to a chain. Later, it is freed and is shown attacking an armored soldier. Screenshots, as well as the E3 trailer, show the boy attempting to sneak past and attack other soldiers. Trico will initially be hostile to the boy, but during the course of the game, the two will develop an emotional attachment to each other. Ueda suggested there may be similar creatures like Trico in the game, but could not confirm this.
Agent – Rockstar Games – Shooter – TBA
Agent is a video game currently in development by Rockstar North for the PlayStation 3. Sony announced that Rockstar was working on a new franchise for the PlayStation 3 in July 2007 but details of the project, including its title, were not announced until June 2009 during the Sony press conference at E3. The game is set during the Cold War and will take players into “the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations”, according to a Rockstar press release. Rockstar has yet to reveal any details regarding the setting for the title other than the fact that it will be set in the late 1970s. Take-Two have confirmed that as of 2010, Agent is still in the development stages.

Disgaea 4 – NIS – Strategy – TBA
Disgaea 4 is an upcoming 2011 Tactical role-playing video game for the PlayStation 3 and is the fourth in the Disgaea series by Nippon Ichi Software. The game tells the story of Valbatoze (a vampire boy), Fenrich (a boy with wolf-like traits), and Fuuka (a girl with a Prinny-themed school uniform). The game once again takes place in the Netherworld, common in Disgaea titles, and follows the story of Valbatoze, a former tyrant and vampire who gave up on his powers and atrocities after an unknown incident. Due to the decline of his powers he was instead reduced to being the warden and Prinny Caretaker of the prison in the Netherworld. Displeased and angered at the corruption of the Netherworld’s rotten government, he rises up and seeks to overthrow it in order to take place as its Overlord. During his conquest he receives the aid of his loyal servant Fenrich, a fellow caretaker of the Prinny prison, and a young girl named Fuuka, a high-schooler who died for reasons unknown on earth and was meant to turn into a Prinny, but was simply given a hat due to the lack of Prinny skin.
Explodemon – Curve Studios – Platformer – January 2011
Explodemon! is an upcoming 2.5D platform video game in development by Curve Studios for the PlayStation 3. It will be released on the Playstation Network in Winter 2010. Players control the titular hero, Explodemon, a superhero that uses his ability to blow himself up in order to destroy enemies and objects, propel himself through the air and solve environmental puzzles. The developers have described the game as “a loving parody of badly translated action games and everything that they embody”
Final Fantasy Versus XIII – Square Enix – RPG – TBA

MLB 11 The Show – SCE San Diego – Sports – March 2011
MLB 11: The Show is an upcoming Major League Baseball video game developed by Sony Computer Entertainment and developed by Sony San Diego. The game is set to be shipped on March 8, 2011 for the PlayStation 3. The game will be adopting the option to use analog controls, similar to what the Major League Baseball 2K series has attempted in recent years, for pitching, hitting and throwing. The game will also include a “guess pitch” option during batting, as well as improvements to the “Road to the Show” career mode and zone hitting. A new offline and online co-op mode will be available, as well as a better online experience; one of the criticisms of previous editions was seriously lagged online play. The game will also feature the option to utilize the PlayStation Move as well as the option to play in stereoscopic 3D.

White Knight Chronicles II – Level 5 – RPG – TBA
Level 5 has announced two new characters from White Knight Chronicles 2: Miu and Scardyne. Along with the announcement the company has also revealed new details about the battle system. Miu is a 15 year old Forian who loves to fight. She is also the granddaughter of former Foria leader Duke Durham. After Duke Durham’s death a major internal disruption in Foria put her life in grave danger. Scardyne is a Forian general who leads Miu to safety following the chaos in Foria. It’s during thier escape from Foria that the two meet up with Leonard’s party and they all end up traveling together. New improvements are being made to the battle system which include new visual effects to attacks, a greater sense of speed thanks to an updated action gauge, and new commands such as dash and charge. Level 5 is also adding “Live Talk,” which will allow your characters to automatically make comments depending on the situations in battle.
Yakuza 4 – CS1 – Action – March 2011
Yakuza 4 picks up the story of Yakuza 3 one year later and takes the player back to Tokyo. The story starts when a man is shot to death in the ruling territory of the Tojo Clan, the organization that has featured in all games in the series to date. A small gang which belongs to Tojo Clan try to establish what happened and their leader is soon found stabbed to death. These events cause a heated battle between four men over money, power, status and honor. The truth becomes apparent as the lies, betrayals and entwined stories are revealed and when these 4 unflinching men get together, the new legend of Kamurocho is born.
