PlayStation 3 Still Trailing Xbox 360 Worldwide, Gap Closing

Global shipments for the PlayStation 3 are finally closing the gap on the Xbox 360. According to last month’s data from Microsoft, and a new report from Sony, the game is about 2 million consoles. Analysts have been predicting that the PlayStation 3 would pass the Xbox 360 eventually, because of the worldwide popularity of the console.

Analysts have been predicting that the PlayStation 3 would pass the Xbox 360 eventually, because of the worldwide popularity of the console. This data aligns with the numbers that show Sony having most success outside of the United States, while Microsoft continues to dominate that market.

Kinect has definitely given Microsoft a great holiday in 2010, and analysts predict that both Sony and Microsoft will both have big holiday sales in 2011. The year over year gap fill for the PlayStation 3 is about 1 million consoles. Being that last year the gap was around 3 million, if the sales stay at the same rates for both consoles, it could take a little while longer for the PS3 to finally catch the 360.

This is the first generation that all cosnoles have done so well. Never has everyone sold so many and I am so happy for Nintendo that they were #1 this entire generation. Basically I say they are all winners, I hate xbox but that doesn’t change the fact that the xbox 360 is a sucessful console.

Wii is Nintendo’s best selling console yet. I am saying all are winners because you can’t deny that the NES impacted everyone’s life and gave a much needed boost to the gaming industry in the 80′s. The PS3 and the 360 will both be close to the same sales by the end of their life.
Sega Genesis = 39 Million; Sega Saturn = 9.5 Million; Sega Dreamcast = 10.6 Million
Sega Genesis was epic, definitely holds a place in my heart. And it sold millions less than Sony and M$.
Xbox = 24 Million; 360 = 57 Million

Yup, Sony pictures is doing great, they posted 270m in profit this year today. Of course that includes 280m they made from selling Spiderman off, so technically they were in a loss again.

Vgchartz does not include all retailers such as Walmart and target places where a lot of games get sold. npd release info from every major retailer in the states anyway. What ever, no one knows where vgchartz info comes from. They are pretty accurate in most cases though, it’s called research analysis and you compile data from multiple sources to get a global picture.
I have seen vgchartz change stuff later on but you have to admit that they are pretty accurate, I’ve never seen anything major that didn’t jive with what I see in the news. Like this artical it’s self.
