Quake in Japan led to Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 Edition

So now that the Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Edition has been revealed, some fans are left wondering why there is a new edition coming for the fighter so shortly after the release of the game.  After years of waiting for Marvel Vs Capcom 3 fans are getting more than they bargained for with another edition just around the corner.  Twelve characters and new stages are great, but many are wondering why this just wasn't offered as DLC instead.  Recently, Ryota Niitsuma said that this was completely out of the Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 team's hands according to Joystiq.

The producer for the game claims that the Earthquake that hit Japan shortly after the game's release earlier this year left the team's development schedule in shambles as well.  Deciding to go forward with a disc based option seems to be the best choice for the developer at this point, and Niitsuma claims that there is some content included in the Ultimate Edition that was originally planned for DLC, but it's about half and half.

I know one option I'd pay good money for is the spectator mode, how a modern fighter can launch without it is really not understandable.  Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 was revealed just a short while ago, with a subsequent reveal of all 12 new characters from the Marvel and Capcom regimes. The game is scheduled for a fall release.

I call BS on this one, how could the cost of putting contents on digital distribution cost more sources and time than putting contents on disc format? I think it’s just Capcom wants to make more money.

I second that Gman! It’s a trend that has been evolving for quite some time- the shtty trend of unfinished games being released and relying on dlc. Not to point any fingers but THq, Capcom, and EA need to stop this ‘biting the hand that feeds’ style of marketing yesterday!

I was watching X-play Comic-Con and Campcom said the Ultimate version fixed many of the balance issues to make it more competitive.

So they blame the earthquake for the unfinished product they sold and marketed at full retail? How much worse is Capcom gonna get? They knew the game wasn’t finished, released it anyway at full retail, and then instead of doing the right thing and having free dlc they make us pay $5 per character! Corrupt to the fullest!

Gotta say, that’s pretty tasteless to use a tragedy like an earthquake as an excuse to re-release content on a disc. It also makes no sense. Once the game is approved, it takes weeks to manufacture and distribute the discs to all of the retailers. With DLC, it takes less than a day, in fact in some cases (like updates), it virtually instantaneous.

That is not only a weak excuse, but a classless one. The changes made to the game indicate that this was the plan all along. Just admit that it’s a money grab, lose the fans that were already out the door, and move on.

LOL Did the quake lead to RE5 Gold, Super Street Fighter 4, the re-release of Dead Rising 2 and the re-release of RE4 on EVERY console? Nope. Capcom, you’ve fell off. You aren’t what you were last generation. You guys release 2 good games a year, then milk the best survival-horror game of all time. I get that every business need $ to stay afloat, but you guys went from making high quality games to re-releasing every good game because they don’t come out often enough. I feel like an idiot buying MvC3 @ $60 then seeing it come out with 12 new characters and whatever else they release alongside it for $40. It’s called greed Capcom, greed.

Bull Capcom! You had it planned from the start and you know you did. You are making this content here knowing full well people will buy it.

Your pretty much shameless. And using a natural disaster as an excuse to cover your tracks is disrespectful to the tragic stuff that happened in Japan and insulting the intelligence of your consumers.
