When Final Fantasy Type-0 HD was announced, many people were surprised it was exclusive to PS4 and Xbox One. There is a reason why Square Enix decided to ignore the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is a unique release mainly because it’s taking a huge generation leap. The original game was only released for the PSP console. To jump from the PSP to the newer PS4 and Xbox One consoles is a big gap. Most other games only take a one generation leap between consoles.
Siliconera wanted to know more about this decision and asked Final Fantasy Type-0 HD director Hajime Tabata for an answer. Tabata said he really wanted to play the game “on the high-end consoles”. He also said the game “looks and runs” better on the PS4 and Xbox One.
The biggest reason Final Fantasy Type-0 HD is not on PS3 and Xbox 360 is because Tabata doesn’t have “much experience” working with those consoles. He mentioned he’s more familiar with the PS4 and Xbox One platforms. This is because he’s been working on Final Fantasy XV which is also going to be out for PS4 and Xbox One.
For fans wanting Final Fantasy Type-0 HD on PS3 and Xbox 360, you will be sad to know it won’t be happening. The game’s director isn’t experienced working on the PS3 and Xbox 360 from the sounds of things.
