Some new information has now been revealed for Metal Gear Online which will be a part of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

We had our first look at Metal Gear Online during The Game Awards earlier this month. It’s looking very action-packed and you can even take selfies too.

Japanese website 4Gamer recently had a chance to interview Kotaro Oki who is the Creative Director for the new Metal Gear Online.

First of all, Konami plans to launch Metal Gear Online simultaneously with the release of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. This means you don’t have to wait a few more weeks like how GTA Online launched after GTA V.

Oki also said the team is finalizing the maximum number of players that will be in Metal Gear Online. It’s likely to be a number between 12 to 16 players.

You can mark enemies with binoculars in Metal Gear Online like you can in Ground Zeroes. When you mark enemies, your teammates can see where the enemies are too. Getting intel like this is helpful in victory Oki added.

The maps in Metal Gear Online won’t be too large or set in an open-world. They will be in “self-contained maps”. This was done to keep the action fast paced.

Dynamic weather is present which will affect the gameplay. There is no day/night system in Metal Gear Online since matches won’t last that long, but you can select the time of day you want to play a match.

Metal Gear Online will also have many unique rules that you can apply to change up the gameplay. The “Team Sneaking” feature will be back which allows the attacking team to have non-lethal weapons and stealth camo, while the defending team has lethal weapons.

Oki also said Metal Gear Online could still be fun for shooting game newbies. Beginners can be helpful simply by marking enemies with their binoculars and contribute that way.
