Bethesda explains why locations from previous games were included in Skyrim

Upcoming Skyrim DLC could feature other provinces in Tamriel

Since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launched last year, players immediately noticed that Bethesda included models for Morrowind and Cyrodiil as landmasses in the game. PC gamers were able to even travel to the other provinces of Tamriel, though nothing is actually there but placeholder content. It has been rumored that Bethesda Game Studios would revisit these previous settings of other Elder Scrolls titles in upcoming DLC, and Bethesda has confirmed that in fact, "they may be used one day".

In a recent interview with Kotaku, Todd Howard explained why the development team included the land masses. "The reason they are there," he explained. "Is when we first built the landmass for Skyrim we knew we were going to have these tall mountains." "We have views early in the project hwere you can see into the province from the other game. We needed to have something there."

"The thinking is, maybe we'll use it one day, but our larger worry was, I'm going to climb up on top of a mountain and look that way. What will I be able to see there?"

Bethesda has been hush about what to expect from future content for TESV: Skyrim, but this past weekend released a video that showcased the many game variations and ideas that didn't make it into the retail release. Whether they take us outside the realm of Skyrim or keep us in, there are plenty of Skyrim fans just dying to get even more content for the already expansive RPG.

Okay I correct my self. I am looking forward to this DLC as much as BF3. I never used to care about DLC, even Red Dead I dont’ care about the DLC (except the free stuff I got – PS3 only) but they have finally peaked my interest.

“…but they have finally peaked my interest.”

I think before you try to talk like you have an IQ that’s higher than how old you are, you should know that a lot of the words you hear aren’t spelled the way you’ve heard them; you’re just setting yourself up for failure. I believe “piqued” not “peaked” is the word you were looking for. Just for future reference so you don’t leave yourself open for criticism.

If you’ve never cared for DLC, that’s because you’re playing on PS3 and not on the 360. If you didn’t know, BF3 isn’t even in the same genre as Skyrim, it also didn’t win ANY game awards whereas Skyrim won RPG of the year AND Game of the Year. So, of course Skyrim should have piqued your interest in DLC. So, next time you want to leave an idiotic remark thinking that anybody but me (the troll) would care about your opinion, maybe you should leave something more comprehensive; like speculation on what future DLC would have. I think that we’ve already concluded that it’s DLC will be more of an expansion similar to something like WoW. So suck it and shut up.

Elswyr should be the next one, or Vvardenfell. both would only be given justice with a whole game. Black marsh would be a cool expansion, but is far from skyrim. I think they should either continue with fighting the Aldmeri dominion, or do something with the sea of ghosts

Choose your side in the war between the Empire and Thalmor on the Summerset Isles or defend it from attacking Sloads… maybe well see a return of the Psijics anyone? Who knows. Or an expedition to Pyandonea! Great way to change up the scenery with lush rain forests and introduce the Maormer (Sea Elves) in a similar manner to Shivering Isles and the Golden Saints and Dark Seducers At least these were my initial thoughts… then i took an arrow in the the knee…

I don’t really see Bethesda making another entire province as a DLC. Provinces are too vast to be DLC material, just think of past DLCs, for example The Shivering Isles for Oblivion, it featured some wilderness and one city; New Sheoth (although it was a big city). That in itself was a huge DLC, so I don’t think Bethesda will feel the need to create an entire province, with numerous cities and miles of wilderness.
Someone on this forum said; ” Im talking about The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall. The whole map from one end to another was about 69 miles. Google image it. DERP”. You my friend, are in fact the derp here. Do you think they are gonna make a DLC 69 miles in size in the Skyrim graphics? Are you that derpy?
Although other provinces is everyone’s dream, me included, its not gonna happen people. The first DLC will be a Daedric Prince. Daggerfall (practically) had Battlespire, Morrowind had Bloodmoon, Oblivion had SHivering Isles. Skyrim will have one too.
However, Bethesda did say that they might use Cyrodiil and Morrowind’s landmasses in the future. To me that is not a DLC, people. Thatis motherfuckin’ The Elder Scrolls VI. Heard it here first ;)

I think you should be stuck in the past after using the wooden dragon priest armour, forced to help the dwemer and Nords of old against an evil forgotten to time with concludes with what happened to the Dwemer. Also you should be able to discover the burial remains of the Champion of Cyrodil “Your Character from TES IV: Oblivion” and get some of the cooler items from that game ie Gray Cowl of Nocturnal or Imperial Dragon Armour.
