In today’s Nintendo Direct presentation Satoru Iwata announced that the Wii U will be getting system updates in the spring and summer to fix some of the launch complaints that Wii U owners have had. The Nintendo executive revealed that the company will be focused on making the system launch faster at start-up, as well as increase the system loading times for apps and menus.

Iwata said that the updates will arrive in stages, with the first coming in the spring, and that Nintendo will also be fine-tuning the MiiVerse in parallel. Games will see unique Mii-Verse functionalities like utilizing the GamePad as a camera in Pikmin 3, to creating unique communities in the social network for Wii Fit U.

Other server-updates will arrive for the Mii-Verse that allows for better filtering functions and having more than one official community per game. Nintendo seems to be leveraging the success of the Mii-Verse, and is currently developing a smart phone app for the service, that allows people to connect to the network when away from the Wii U.
