Microsoft started out this console cycle with some problems. The initial unveiling of the Xbox One was lackluster to say the least, and fans were in revolt over the company’s decisions surrounding DRM, used games, and an always online connection. They quickly reversed course and have spent the last year and a half seemingly making it up to gamers with huge AAA releases, and big features added to the console experience. The constant moniker for 2015 was “the greatest games lineup in Xbox history”, which they seemed to deliver on in a lot of people’s opinions.
Now, heading into 2016 they have declared that 2015 was “just the beginning” with a new trailer showing what has come out, but also teasing what’s to come over the next eleven months. Featuring accolades for Rise of the Tomb Raider, Halo 5, and Forza Motorsport 6, among others, Microsoft boasts that the Xbox One is “the only system with every top ten best-selling console game”.
Moving into 2016 the trailer shows footage from upcoming games like Quantum Break, Tom Clancy’s The Division, ReCore, Scalebound, Mirror’s Edge Catalyst, Sea of Thieves, and Halo Wars 2. They once again refer to this as the greatest games lineup in Xbox history, so Microsoft feels like they’ve definitely carried momentum from 2015.
2016 definitely looks like a great year for Xbox One gamers, but is it the best in the console family’s history? Let us know in the comments, and share if you think it’s enough to call 2015 “just the beginning”.
