Rumor: Next PS4 Firmware Update Will Bring Back Media Playback and More

Recommended Videos

The PlayStation Blog received a juicy bit of information today in the comments section thanks to SCEE representative Fred Dutton. Dutton stated that we could all expect “more news on PS4 updates very soon”, but he refused to say more on the matter. Although this official rep wouldn’t say anything, that didn’t stop a known industry insider from coming forward and filling us all in on the details that Sony is being tight-lipped about, and the information is exciting.

The informant known as Tidux, an individual with a long-running history of leaking accurate data, said that the upcoming PS4 firmware update will see the return of long-requested PS3 features as well as other additions. The folks over at Gamepur were quick to get the scoop from Tidux and were able to uncover extra details. What could these PS3 features be that are making their way to the PS4? Well, it looks like media playback is the big surprise awaiting us all. Finally, we would no longer be bound to the subscription service Music Unlimited to enjoy some tunes. This news, if true, is sure to be a dream come true for the millions of Sony’s new gen adopters.

So, when can we expect to enjoy this last-gen feature again? According to Tidux, the firmware update should hit before Gamescom. The Germany event takes place from August 13th to August 17th. That leaves us with less than a month before we can verify the validity of today’s provided info. Be sure to check back with us regularly for an update on this situation.
