Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 Remasters Confirmed by Job Opening

by Jose Belmonte

It seems like Blizzard is taking remastering old classics as one of their current business strategies, with new updated versions of Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 set to be developed following the release of Starcraft Remastered this summer. The remastered editions are directly referenced in a new jop opening listed by the company, in which they are trying to find a senior software engineer with 5 years of experience.

The text of the listing directly mentions Starcraft, Diablo 2, and Wacraft 3, as titles that offered compelling stories, intense multiplayer, and endless replayability, which allowed them to become the “titans of their day.” And while the constant evolution of hardware and online platforms has left them behind current games, Blizzard confirms that they are “restoring them to glory.”

In order to achieve that, the company is seeking someone with engineering talents, passion, and the ability to get “tough jobs done,” while also suggesting that the development team would have a small size. Some of the requirements are a strong knowledge of C / C++, experience with client / server architecture and debugging unfamiliar code, and a mind towards scalability and performance.

As it is the case with Starcraft Remastered, it is expected that the new versions of Diablo 2 and Warcraft 3 would support 4K Ultra HD video cards and Monitors. As for an official announcement, it seems like it will take some time, considering that Blizzard is still hiring for the project.
