X-Men Apocalypse Comic-Con Trailer Unveils The Four Horsemen

One of the panels at Comic-Con that got the greatest fanfare was that of 20th Century Fox, who had a number of movies to show off including Fantastic Four, Deadpool, and X-Men: Apocalypse. We got a leak for the Deadpool trailer on Saturday, but now a trailer for X-Men Apocalypse has surfaced as well.

Considering this will be hard to find with no official release for the X-Men Apocalypse trailer, I thought I would give a rundown of the events of said trailer as best as I can, especially with the footage being so crappy for now.

The X-Men Apocalypse Comic-Con trailer starts with shots of massive destruction and then cuts to the young Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) saying “I saw the end of the world. I could feel all this death.” Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) comforts her by telling her it is merely a dream, but we all know that is far from the case.

Following this, we get the first appearance of Apocalypse (Oscar Isaac) in audio form, where he says “I’ve been called many things over many lifetimes, Ra, Krishna, Yaweh.” This seem to show that Apocalypse has been around a long time, obtaining followers over many generations as a god or deity.

The trailer then transitions to the returning Moira Taggert (Rose Byrne) where she says to Xavier “ever since the world found out about mutants, there have been secret societies, cults, who see them as some second coming or sign of god.” During this, we also see glimpses of Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) and Quicksilver (Evan Peters).

Apocalypse surfaces only in audio form again as he narrates over a scene involving Magneto (Michael Fassfender) while saying “I was there to spark and fan the flame of man’s awakening, to spin the wheel of destruction.”

Taggert continues by saying “I was tracking one of them. They believe that tens of thousands of years ago an ancient being was born. The world’s first…” before Xavier finishes her sentence with “mutant.”

Apocalypse gets much more sinister in his next line, “You are all my children. And you’re lost, because you follow blind leaders. Everything they’ve built will fall and from the ashes of their world, we’ll build a better one.” During this, we get shots of existing characters like Beast (Nicholas Hoult) and Xavier and newcomers like Jubilee (Lana Condor), Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee) and the aforementioned Jean Grey.

This leads to a moment I’m surprised they included in a trailer, though it was for the San Diego Comic-Con crowd. Magneto seemingly responds to Apocalypse’s statement by saying “Who the f*ck are you?” This is similar to the classic line from Wolverine in First Class and it wouldn’t surprise me if it’s out of context here.

Right after this we get the first shot of Apocalypse, where he looks smaller than expected, but he still looks great. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if he grows in size during the movie in some way. Apocalypse seems to respond to Magneto by saying “Come and see.”

Mystique seems like she may be somewhat on his side maybe with the line “Mutants are being hunted, living in fear.” Xavier is then using Cerebro, where someone asks him “What is it?” in which he responds “Oh God.”

Xavier then says “He can control all of us,” before he’s pulled away in his chair by Magneto as Mystique yells “Charles!” Here we can see finally see who Apocalypse’s Horsemen are, which happen to be Magneto, Storm, Psylocke (Olivia Munn), and Angel (Ben Hardy). This is an interesting lineup of Horsemen, as they differ from the comics a good bit, but it should be awesome to see on the big screen regardless.

After this, we see a few more random shots, including our first look at Cyclops (Tye Sheridan), which are focused around wording of “Prepare For” and “The Apocalypse.” We also have who I believe to be Xavier saying “A great storm approaches, which leads to Mystique saying “That’s why I’m here. To fight.” It appears she’s going to be more of a good guy in this one like in First Class, rather than an antagonist like in Days of Future Past.

Here we get a better look at Psylocke in her great looking costume and Quicksilver in action as well. There is a moment of someone yelling, but it was hard to decipher what was said here. Xavier all of a sudden has his eyes turn back and then says “I’ve never felt power like this before,” before it cuts to the title of the movie.

We then get one of the best shots of the entire trailer at the very end, with our first look at the bald James McAvoy version of Xavier. This is pretty iconic and shows what we will eventually get in the movie itself.

All in all, this was a fantastic trailer to get us hyped a year ahead of time and hopefully we’ll get one similar in theaters next month alongside Fantastic Four. Either way, I believe we’re going to be in for a treat with X-Men Apocalypse releases next May.
