Apparently those marketing dollars are paying off for EA and DICE with Battlefield 3, because apparently six times as many people have played the Battlefield 3 beta than did Bad Company 2. Karl Magnus Troedsson took to the Battleblog to reveal some interesting statistics and facts about the Battlefield 3 beta.
Troedsson reaffirmed early DICE comments about the beta, and that the software running on all platforms is around a month old. Since the Battlefield 3 beta is a true beta, DICE is using this time for stress testing their servers and back end to hopefully have the smoothest possible launch they can have.
“Already we are seeing six times the number of simultaneous player in the Battlefield 3 Open Beta compared to the Beta for Battlefield Bad Company 2! The fact that Battlefield 3 is clearly our biggest game launch ever by a magnitude of six makes it doubly important to test everything.”
DICE sounds confident that as they get closer to the final build of the game, “the game will play and sound better than the Open Beta”.
