Call of Duty: Elite the Future of Gaming

by | @AttackFanboy | on September 29, 2011

Activison Sees the Future, and it's filled with Elite

Activision believes that all games will be forced to adopt features like Call of Duty: Elite in the future.  The company believes that a service like the one that they have built will be necessary to keep gamers engaged and connected.  In a recent interview, Jamie Berger spoke at length about the new features and why he thinks that Call of Duty: Elite is the future of gaming.

“Right now, it’s an option but in three to five years, it won’t be.  To support a diverse player base, you will have to have a services and ongoing content strategy.  I don’t see how games are going to manage without that… Elite is about Call of Duty being bigger than ever five years from now, and laying the groundwork for that.”

After Bungie introduced the world to the constantly connected community aspect that can be utilized by developers, it’s nice to see that other games are starting to notice how important it can be.  Recently, titles like Call of Duty, Battlefield, and others have recognized this importance of giving more to their players to enhance the experience.

While there are plenty of free features in Call of Duty: Elite, Activision is the first company to start charging for the services that they are claiming all games will need in the future.  Their on-going content strategy and social strategy are rolled into one with Elite, and we’ll see how popular it becomes with the Call of Duty faithful this November when it launches side by side with Modern Warfare 3.
