The Wii U’s Devil’s Third has been one of the more interesting releases to come to the console in its lifetime, featuring very mature and strange content that definitely doesn’t gel with Nintendo’s typical family focus. The game was critically panned and forgotten soon after launch, but now one of its main features will no longer be accessible.
If you did happen to be one of the people who enjoyed the game (particular its online features) then we have some bad news, as they have been officially discontinued today. This was news that Nintendo actually announced earlier this year, giving those who did own the game fair warning before pulling the plug.
While it’s never good when a major component of a game doesn’t work anymore, the game’s price still remains at its reduced price of $29.99 compared to the original $59.99. Whether or not it’s worth checking out even at the reduced price is debatable, but the option’s there for Wii U owners willing to take a risk.
For those who don’t know, this game even releasing in North America was doubtful at one point, which had to do with a troubled development and the game’s subject matter. The game was secured as a Wii U-exclusive in 2014, but Nintendo wasn’t necessarily thrilled with the end results. This lead to a nearly non-existent marketing push for when the game finally launched late last year, and following launch it was quickly swept under the rug.
Despite the game’s online features being shut down on Wii U, this won’t be the last that we’ll be hearing of Devil’s Third. There’s actually a free-to-play version of the game that will be launching for PC, though a release date for that has not yet been revealed. Considering the Wii U version had lots of microtransactions, maybe the game will have more success when it eventually launches on PC.
