EA is planning a huge marketing push for Star Wars: Battlefront later this year to cash in with the hype for the release of Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens.
Everyone will know by now that Disney acquiring the Star Wars license was one of the biggest things to ever happen in the entertainment industry in recent years. Not only were a slate of new movies announced, but EA was given the responsibility to make Star Wars games for the next decade or so.
The first game EA is releasing in this new partnership is Star Wars: Battlefront developed by DICE. This will be the third game of the series, although EA is not marketing it that way. This is more of a reboot hence the name of the game doesn’t have the number “3” in it.
During EA’s conference call earlier this week, the company’s CFO Blake Jorgensen spoke more about their vision for Star Wars: Battlefront. For one, he confirmed that the game will come out before Christmas 2015. EA also plans to release the game so it will “align” with Star Wars VII: The Force Awaken’s release date of December 18th. Star Wars fever will be in full swing at the end of the year, and is a perfect time to release the game.
Jorgensen also hinted that Star Wars: Battlefront will have the same level of marketing as a numbered Battlefield game would. Even though Battlefield Hardline is out in March, Star Wars: Battlefront will be getting more advertisements and hype.
He also said people can expect to hear more about Star Wars: Battlefront and Star Wars VII: The Force Awakens in the next couple of months. Let’s hope both the game and movie live up to the hype.
