Green Arrow, Green Lantern Join Injustice 2 Roster

The roster for Injustice 2, the sequel to the well-received and popular Injustice: Gods Among Us, grew by two after developer Netherrealm Studios released their latest trailer for the game today. Green Lantern Hal Jordan and the Green Arrow, Oliver Queen, are both returning from the first game, and both look like they’re quite fun to play as.

The new trailer also continues to tease the game’s story, as it picks up where the first one left off: Batman and his allies are trying to rebuild the world after it suffered under the regime of a tyrannical Superman – driven mad by the deaths of his wife and unborn child – while a number of super-powered beings attempt to break Superman out of prison and elevate him back to his prior status as world leader. Eventually a greater threat will rise,  forcing both sides to work together for Earth’s survival. Odds are that threat is Darkseid, who is currently a pre-order bonus for the game.

For those who never played the first one (shame on you), Injustice 2 utilizes DC Comics’ stable of iconic characters in a fighting game that features the fluid gameplay of Netherrealm’s other fighting game series, Mortal Kombat, combined with ludicrous “super moves” that include punching your opponents either through buildings or right into space itself, physics be damned.

As for today’s revealed characters, in the first game Green Lantern sided with Superman’s regime and swapped his green ring, powered by willpower, with a yellow one powered by fear. He’s back in green this time, which either means he’s reformed or this is a Hal Jordan from a different universe.

As for Green Arrow, that story is a little more complicated, as the version of Oliver Queen from the “evil” Superman’s world was dead when the first game took place, at Superman’s hands, so unless he was brought back from the dead (which happens a lot in comics) he, too, is from an alternate world. There’s no word yet on if Injustice 2 will repeat the Stephen Amell “Arrow” DLC from the first one.
