Could Ground Zeroes arrive without iconic voice actor?

David Hayter has been doing the voice of Snake in the Metal Gear series for well over a decade. With Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes looming, Hayter recently took to twitter to ask fans whether or not they would be upset if he didn’t play Snake in this next game.

“How would you react if I didn’t play Snake in the next Metal Gear?,” asked Hayter to fans. Listed as an “informational poll”, over 64% who answered said that they would be angry or upset if Hayter wasn’t the voice actor for the character in Ground Zeroes.

It’s hard to tell why Hayter took to Twitter in this way to stir up controversy about the next game, but it could signal changes afoot in the Metal Gear franchise at Konami. Perhaps the actor recently got news that Kojima Productions wouldn’t be needing his services in the next game, and wanted to show that it matters to fans. He did tag Kojima and Konami in his tweet, so if he was trolling for a negative reaction, he got one from the majority of responders.

Konami has yet to reveal a release date for Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, but it will likely be one of the big games that we hear a lot more about at E3 2013.
