One of the missing elements gamers found when transitioning from Xbox 360 to Xbox One was the lack of a dedicated HBO GO app. This app gives you access to every season of all the shows offered by HBO, both past and present, as well as a multitude of movies and documentaries. This includes Game of Thrones, True Detective, Girls, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. Not being able to watch these and other fantastic shows and movies was pretty annoying, but the wait is over and the app will be available on Xbox One later today in the US.
Moving onto the Xbox One comes with a few added benefits, including full HD support and Kinect voice and gesture controls. You can also sort through the videos being offered in a variety of ways. If you find something you like, such as a currently airing show like Game of Thrones, then you can pin it to your dashboard, making accessing it that much easier whenever a new episode is ready.
Of course, you still need to be subscribed to HBO through your cable provider in order to access the service. The following cable providers will authenticate your account through the app at this time: AT&T, Bend Broadband, Blue Ridge Communications, Cablevision, Charter, Comcast’s Xfinity, Cox, DIRECTV, Dish, Grande Communications, HTC Digital Cable, Massillon Cable/Clear Picture, Mediacom, Midcontinent Communications, RCN, Suddenlink, Time Warner Cable, Verizon, and Wow!
