Kojima Productions will showcase the technology behind Metal Gear Solid 5 on August 30th. The Fox Engine, which was revealed a couple years back, is the technology that will be used in KojiPro games going forward.

In a recent retrospective article on the PlayStation Blog, the Metal Gear creator explains that the Fox Engine is “nearly finished”.

“The Fox Engine is nearly finished, but the only way to be sure it works is to create a game at the same time and improve the engine with our tools as we go along. Originally we were going to do this for Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, but a lot happened along the way and instead it is being made with the engine they have at Platinum Games.”

“We are ready to show what it can do,” said Kojima.

With the next generation rumored for 2013, it wouldn’t be a longshot to assume that Metal Gear Solid 5 would arrive alongside next generation PlayStation hardware. Though when originally announced, the Fox Engine was said to be a “multi-platform” development toolkit.

Recent rumors out of SDCC pointed to Metal Gear Solid 5, but were quickly shot down by Konami. Kojima has spoken about Metal Gear Solid 5 in the past. Kojima Productions recently started hiring for their next generaton Metal Gear experience, so its a matter of when, not if, at this point.

Being that its likely quite a ways off, Metal Gear fans will have Revengeance to hold them over. An action-oriented take on the franchise is due to arrive in early 2013. A gameplay tutorial was recently released by Platinum Games which showcases Raiden and the sword-swinging mechanics of the upcoming title.
