We have known for a while that owners of both Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and SSB for Nintendo 3DS would be able to download Mewtwo as a playable character for free. However, this left a lot of 3DS or Wii U only gamers wondering if they would be left out in the cold. With the popularity of the character, and the overal desire for more fighters in Nintendo’s mascot brawler, it seemed like an obvious choice to allow those without both versions of the game to spend some money to get the DLC. Today Nintendo of Europe has confirmed that this is indeed an option.
Mewtwo will be available to purchase later in Smash Bros, for those who don’t register both versions
The tweet reads “Mewtwo will be available to purchase later in Smash Bros, for those who don’t register both versions.” Unfortunately no other details were given including release date and price. The free version will be distributed in Spring of 2015, so it is safe to assume that the paid will hit at or near the same time. As far as price, Nintendo has been good at making sure their DLC is fairly priced so I wouldn’t expect a big surprise.
With the recent announcement that Nintendo isn’t currently working on further DLC for Super Smash Bros. it looks like we only have Mewtwo to look forward to for the foreseeable future. Hopefully the response to his release will spur Nintendo to push for more options to become available later on. And, of course, with Nintendo of Europe being the only ones to comment we can’t be 100% certain this offer will extend to other territories. It is highly likely, but you can never be sure until you hear it directly from Nintendo in your country.
