PS4 2DS XL Dragon Quest XI Edition

Knowing that Dragon Quest XI is one of the most anticipated releases of the year in Japan, Sony and Nintendo have presented limited editions of their PlayStation 4 and the newly announced Nintendo 2DS XL consoles, featuring a very special design based on the RPG title. These models will be released along with the game on July 29th, and for now they are only planned for the Japanese market.

The PlayStation 4 model is painted in blue, with a gold emblem on the top on the console and a Slime icon on the front. The emblem seems reminiscing of the first Dragon Quest trilogy, which could point out to a hidden connection with this new chapter. In fact, this PS4 model is called “Loto Edition,” which is also a reference to the first three games. Both the emblem and the Slime icon are also present on the blue Dual Shock 4 controller.

Just like the PS4 Metal Slime Edition celebrating the release of Dragon Quest Heroes, this model comes with the figurine of a Gold Slime which can be attached to the console through an USB port.

The 2DS XL Slime Edition has a dark tone of silver, and it features the figure of a melted down metal slime on the top, which stands out a little but not enough to be a hurdle when putting the console in our pocked or in a protective case. The rest of the surface is made of the regular plastic of the console, and is covered in small icons related to the series, a design that is also present on the bottom of the console.

The interior doesn’t feature as much Dragon Quest imagery, but it does have a Slim printed on the bottom-left corner.

With the growing number of announcements, the release of Dragon Quest XI is going to be surrounded by lots of limited editions and related products, such as a collector’s edition of the game which comes with both versions for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS, or a very particular edition of a Dual Shock 4 controller shaped like a Slime.

Dragon Quest XI: In Search of Departed Time will release in Japan on July 29th for PS4 and 3DS. A Western release is expected, but Square Enix has not shared any information on that front. For now, you can enjoy the excellent Dragon Quest Heroes 2 on PS4, which was released this week.
