Next week PlayStation gamers will see a change to the PlayStation Network in the form of a rebranding and renaming of the long running online network. Expect a system update on February 8th that makes the switch and prompts you to agree to a brand new set of Terms of Service. According to Sony, no other major changes should be expected in the update.
To “Establish a global and comprehensive network platform of services across games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convenient account,” appears to be Sony’s objective in the rebranding of the PSN.
Sony has since been notifying PSN users of the upcoming name change, as not to suprise any of you long-time users, when you wake up to find the switcheroo. Your PlayStation Network account will automatically be switched to a Sony Entertainment Network account. The changes will go into effect for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, but the changes will not be made to the PSP at this time.
