The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Has Gone Gold, On Track to Meeting March Release

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is scheduled to release this March alongside the Nintendo Switch. However, for those that have followed the title ever since its initial announcement in 2013, they have some doubts that the game will actually release on time given its history of delays and setbacks. Well you can all stop worrying as Breath of the Wild has officially gone gold.

This bit of information was revealed through a tweet by Monolith Soft developer Yasuyuki Sonne which was later translated and reported on by Trusted Reviews. Monolith Soft assisted Nintendo in developing Breath of the Wild, specifically helping out in the open world. Accompanying the tweet is an image showcasing the entire Breath of the Wild development team along with Shigeru Miyamoto himself.

For those not familiar with the term, “going gold” in the software industry means that the product is ready to be released to the customer and just needs to go through manufacturing to finalize the whole thing. What this means for us is that Breath of the Wild is well on its way to meeting that March release date as previously announced.

This is especially good news for those that have been waiting for Breath of the Wild for over four years now. The latest Zelda title was initially announced in January 2013 during a Nintendo Direct stream and was slated to release for the Wii U in 2015. Come 2015, however, Nintendo announced that the game would be pushed back to 2016 because they wanted to make the “ultimate and most complete Zelda game.”

But as we all know, 2016 came and went with still no release. During that year, Nintendo announced that the game would get pushed back once again to 2017. By then they also announced that the game would see a simultaneous release for both the Wii U and the Switch, which was known as the NX at the time.

An official release date was finally revealed during Nintendo’s Switch conference in January of this year. While having an exact date is good, there were still some lingering doubts that Nintendo would miss the deadline once again given their history on the subject. Luckily, it seems they’re on track to meeting that date now that the game has gone gold nearly a month before release.
