In a message from Gabe Newell, Valve's head honcho revealed that the recent breach of the Steam Forums could be worse than expected. The company has discovered that the recent hack may have compromised sensitive information like names, emails, and credit card information (encrypted).
You may have experienced some odd behavior on Valve's Steam site this morning, and apparently it's due to a hacking website targeting the platform. A hacking website altering the front page of the Steam Users' Forum with a posted advertisement to their website, with reports of spam, seem to be the extent of the damage.
Valve has announced it will being offering Free to Play titles on Steam. At launch, the library of titles is limited to five complete free to play titles, which inlcude, Spiral Knights, Forsaken Worlds, Champions Online: Free for All, Global Agenda: Free Agent, and Alliance of Valiant Arms.
