In a sad turn of events for 2K Games and their Australia division, the studio has shut down. The developers of Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel are currently looking for other employment due to an effort on 2K Games/Take Two’s part to ‘better manage’ development costs.
The story broke late yesterday via Kotaku Au, and has since been confirmed complete with a statement from 2K Games.
“We can confirm we have taken steps to begin the studio closure process for 2K Australia in order to better manage ongoing development costs while improving the working proximity of our creative teams. We are very grateful for the team’s valuable contributions to numerous 2K projects, and are working with affected staff to explore reassignment opportunities where possible.”
In the past 2K games has been great with finding jobs for those hit by closure, as with Irrational Games in the past. GDAA’s Australian division took to Twitter and spoke on the matter in regards to finding those hit by the cuts new jobs.
“We’ve been on the phone all morning looking for opportunities for the amazing talent at 2K Australia with some success. Still going.”
It’s great to see the game development community working together to find those in need new jobs when something like this happens. At least we can honor them by continuing to enjoy Borderlands: The Handsome Collection.
