Attack of the Fanboy

Are you ready to jump in to the world of writing about games? Unless you’ve reached this page by error, that answer is probably yes. The good thing is, you’re in the right place. We are currently looking for ambitious writers with all levels of experience to join our team of contributors.

Why you should write with us

An established website

Attack of the Fanboy is an independent website published by Modern Media Group LLC that was established in March 2010, and has been providing video game news, reviews, videos, guides and more to our growing audience of readers on a daily basis. Having established our footprint, our site attends industry events like E3, PAX, Gamescom, Eurogamer Expo and others,  which gives us an inside look at the video game industry, and in-turn, enables us to write better, more informed articles for our readers. The opportunities that are available for our writers are directly tied to the level of commitment that a writer demonstrates for our site. Current and past contributors for our site have sat for interviews and previews for some of the biggest games franchises in the world. Want to see the next big game before everyone else? Write for our site, and this could be you!

Exposure for your writing

Our site is included in the Metacritic, GameRankings, and Open Critic review aggregators.   What’s this mean? It means your writing gets seen by many in the gaming community.  Our site is a great place to establish your footprint as a critic or reporter.

Experience is a valuable commodity. If you’re looking to become a full-time journalist or freelancer, we’ll give you a great launching pad and invaluable experience in the article creation process. We’ll teach you how to use one of the most popular publishing programs, and how to adhere to best practices for online media creation.

Who we are looking for

  • You are passionate about video games, and want to share that passion with the world.
  • You are looking for exposure for your writing, and an opportunity to get real world experience.
  • You want to be an authoritative voice writing about video games on the web.

If any of this sounds like you, read on!

Ok, I’m interested. How do I start?

Read on below to find out what we’re looking for in new contributors.

Paid Writers

(Looking to fill position ASAP with goal to have transition complete by January 1st, 2019.)

We are looking for an Editor-in-Chief to take over in 2019.  Salary negotiable depending on experience.  While experience is preferred, we are willing to train the right person.  Base+ Monthly Bonus for hitting traffic goals.  Duties include daily content creation as well as working with existing team to get the most coverage in terms of news, reviews, and guides for the site.  Goals will include daily, weekly, and monthly traffic goals as well as continuing to grow the staff of the site.

Reviewers/Guide Editors

We are looking for writers who have experience in reviewing games and writing guides to take on a dedicated role as our lead reviewer and guide writer on the site.  You will have first priority on any game review as you will be our reviews editor.  Experience in reviewing games is a must.  We can teach the guides part.  Salary negotiable and depends on experience with multiple payment options available to the right candidate.

Staff Writers (Ongoing)

Right now we are only looking for ambitious writers who are looking to actively contribute to the site on a daily basis. There will be an expectation to make multiple article contributions to the site on a daily basis and you’ll eventually be required to maintain a high level of quality with minimal oversight.

If you have no experience in writing about games or other topics online, and if you see yourself only being able to write occasionally, you’re likely not a good fit for a paid position on our site. We require our paid contributors to meet a monthly quota on posts, and that averages out to one post per day.   However, this is the bare minimum for success with our site.  Our top performing contributors are able to keep their finger on the pulse of the gaming community, covering numerous topics with the ability to write numerous types of articles.

The ideal contributor to our site can take on multiple challenges such as news writing as well as creating original editorial content such as opinion pieces, lists, and guides.  Our ideal contributor likes games of all types and is able to write about games of all genres and on all platforms.  Ideally, this candidate should also want to step up to review games when the opportunity presents itself and be able to squeeze as much content out of a game that is possible by writing a review, accompanying guides for the game, and extended coverage of it as patches and updates are issued post-launch.

Contact us to inquire about how we compensate our paid contributors.  If this sounds like something you are interested in, and you think that you’ve got the time to dedicate, use the contact address below to express your interest in writing for AOTF and make sure to include that you are interested in a paid position.

Voluntary Contributors

If the above doesn’t sound like you, but you are interested in contributing to our site we would still like to talk with you.  Voluntary contribution to our site will still have some expectations attached to it, but far less than what’s listed above.
