While Metroid fans got the game that they never asked for in Metroid Prime: Federation Force when it launched recently, there were also rumors that another main entry in the series had actually been pitched to Nintendo. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow developer MercurySteam was the developer that had apparently pitched a new Metroid game to Nintendo, which reports claimed the company rejected.

However, MercurySteam co-founder Enric Alvarez recently spoke with Eurogamer about the rumor, which he confirmed was entirely false. He said the following:

“I think this one grew from an interview we did when we were finalizing Mirror of Fate. While doing an interview, somebody asked us about what other game we would like to do, and I think the Metroid thing came from that. Or it was about the Metroid influences in Mirror of Fate. The rest is pure invention.”

These rumors of a new Metroid game from the developer began last Summer, as reports suggested that they were working on a new first-person Metroid game for Wii U and 3DS. The main character was set to be Samus, though she would have been joined by several other bounty hunters.

There’s currently no news regarding when another main Metroid game will be released, with the last main entry being Metroid: Other M on the Wii.
