The Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition has become a very rare collectors item, with pre-orders selling out and units going for astronomical prices on eBay and other resale markets. It seems that the game is even rarer than initially thought though, as Gamestop has had to issue a number of pre-order cancellations. Customers have been receiving notice over the last few days of the cancellations, with the cutoff seeming to be November 18th.

“Due to the popularity of Fire Emblem,” the Gamestop internal notice which was shared on Reddit reads, “we quickly reached our allocation on this Special Edition after reservations were first turned on. Once we met our allocation on 11/18/15, reservations for this Special Edition were turned off. Unfortunately, due to a system glitch, this SKU was mistakenly turned back on for reserve after 11/18/15, and additional reservations were taken in stores.”

“Due to this glitch, we over-reserved on this Specil Edition in stores, and unfortunately will not have enough product to cover these additional reserves. Any customer that reserved the Fire Emblem Special Edition in stores after 11/18/15 will not receive this product.”

The notice then goes on to inform employees that they will need to contact customers of the problem and give them the option to fully cancel the pre-order or transition it to another game. The regular editions of Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright and Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest seem to be well stocked, so many will likely want to switch to those.

The big question for those with pre-orders is, when and where did you order it. If it was before November 18th or from another store then you are in the clear. It also seems like the Gamestop website was affected, so those orders should be checked as well. Of course, if you bought from a scalper, they could have their order cancelled, which would then impact you as well. If you bought on eBay or Amazon you might want to reach out and make sure your order is safe.
