For Honor, Ubisoft’s medieval multiplayer game, is taking the lead also in the Japanese charts, as MediaCreate reveals. The game has performed better than it was expected, which has resulted in stock problems across the country that have made the title nearly sold out in most stores. The rest of new entries have not made much of an impression, and the hardware list remains pretty stable compared to last week.
Preceded by strong Western sales, For Honor has taken the first position in the software list even though its numbers are not that impressive compared to other recent releases. Part of the reason for that is that stores underestimated the public’s interest for the game, resulting in a low distribution that was clearly not enough to meet the demand.
Being a Western production with aesthetics away from the usual Japanese taste, For Honor was expected to go largely unnoticed by the public. However, the recent open beta produced an spike in pre-orders, but by the time it was clear that the game would sell better than predicted, it was late to send more copies to the stores. Hopefully new shipments in the coming weeks will be able to meet the demand.
It’s a problem that last week’s top sellers Dragon Quest Monters: Joker 3 and Nioh had to face as well, and as a result they haven’t been able to sell as much as possible in this second week. Nevertheless, Nioh had a decent drop, selling 66 percent of its debut sales, but Joker 3 dropped a whole 88 percent.
The rest of new releases include Romance of the Three Kingdoms 13, the PS4 version of Digimon World: Next Order and Diabolik Lovers: Lost Eden. None of them have sold particularly well, specially the Digimon title, which added new content and completely revamped graphics from the original PSVita version.
Console sales got a little lower than last week but mostly stable, with one little surprise, and is that Wii U has now been surpassed even by PlayStation 3. However, that’s not much of a shock considering that Nintendo has ended its production and we are only to weeks away from the arrival of Nintendo Switch.
