Gears of War 4 is without question one of the most anticipated release of 2016, with the game’s beta set to arrive today for early access gamers that purchased Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. This beta focuses exclusively on the multiplayer aspect of the game, but the developer’s studio head is saying the campaign will really astound us.
We learned awhile back that Gears of War 4 would have differing frame rates between its multiplayer and campaign, with multiplayer running at 60FPS, while campaign will be locked at 30FPS.
The Coalition’s studio head Rod Fergusson was the one that first revealed this news in the past and now he’s explained why they made this decision in a video interview with IGN.
Fergusson discussed how they wanted to really “push the visuals as far as possible” in Gears of War 4, similar to how they did with the first game on the Xbox 360. With constraints like AI and such, this meant that they had to go with a lower frame rate in comparison to the multiplayer.
He also explained how for multiplayer the most important thing is responsiveness, which is why they felt they had to go with 60FPS for that mode. You will at least get to check out the multiplayer side if you are part of the early access beta this week, and if not, make sure to check out the open beta that will kick off next week.
