It has now been revealed that the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Mortal Kombat X will not be developed by NetherRealm Studios.

When Mortal Kombat X was first announced last year, NetherRealm Studios was the only developer mentioned. The game will be coming out for the PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360. It looks like NetherRealm Studios is concentrating on the newer systems only, as another studio is responsible for the last-gen versions.

NetherRealm Studios confirmed to VideoGamer.com recently that High Voltage Software will be developing Mortal Kombat X on PS3 and Xbox 360. They outsourced the development for the game so that they can max out the power of the PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

High Voltage Software will still be using NetherRealm Studios’ “tech with oversight” to help them develop Mortal Kombat X for PS3 and Xbox 360. It’s worth noting all promotional material for game has been for the newer consoles and PC. We have yet to see what the game looks like on PS3 and Xbox 360.

PS3 and Xbox 360 owners shouldn’t be scared of High Voltage Software though. The studio has been responsible for porting many other games in the past. They developed the PC and PS4 versions of Injustice: Gods Among Us and the PC version of Mortal Kombat.
