Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End has been advertised as the last game of the series by Naughty Dog, but Nolan North is open to reprise the role of Nathan Drake if another developer decides to take over the franchise.
North mentioned in an interview with Vulture: “Depending on how much money this game makes, Sony might want to do another one with another studio. And I would certainly come back.”
Sony owns the rights to the Uncharted IP, so they could make an Uncharted 5 if they really wanted to. They just have to find a developer talented enough that can overtake what Naughty Dog left behind.
North is not wrong that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End will go on to make a lot of money. In the UK, the fourth game sold more copies at launch than Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception. It is sure to be the best selling PS4 exclusive so far as the franchise is still popular.
Naughty Dog is now working on another game, but nobody knows what it is yet. Some people are hoping it’s The Last of Us 2 while others are clamoring for a Crash Bandicoot reboot. It might be likely a new IP is in the works instead.
