Nintendo has reassured gamers that preparations for the Nintendo NX console won’t affect Wii U owners yet.

As reported by IGN, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said a couple interesting things about the Nintendo NX console during a shareholders meeting this week.

Iwata mentioned the company is “still making 3DS and Wii software” while the Nintendo NX is being made. He said the company is “prioritizing satisfying customers” with a Wii U.

A lot of people feared the Wii U was being abandoned in favor for the Nintendo NX. This year’s E3 2015 event from Nintendo was said to be lackluster from a lot of fans. They felt a lack of good new Wii U games were announced.

Iwata also said the main reason they are being quiet about the Nintendo NX console is because our “competitors may take our ideas“. He said if they speak too early, customers won’t be as surprised as well.

Nintendo previously admitted the Wii U didn’t do so well because the device wasn’t as innovative thanks to the uprising of tablets. Whatever they are planning for the Nintendo NX could be interesting if there are no copycats out there yet.

The Nintendo NX will be a new home console and not just a handheld device it has been suggested.
