Sony and LG are locked in a bitter battle between the two technology companies.  LG claims that Sony’s PS3 console infringes on a number of patents with the inclusion of a Blu-ray player in it’s device.  The courts have just issued an injunction to stop the shipments of PS3’s in Europe.  This preliminary injunction has led customs agencies to seize and confiscate all PS3’s coming into Europe.  It’s being reported that the collected consoles are being stored until the case moves forward for a time period of up to three weeks.

As legalities go, Sony will likely file an appeal with the patent office.  But as it stands, if LG was to win the case, they would have claim on a percentage of profits for each and every PS3 sold round the world.  This could certainly put a damper on Sony’s profitability initiative that they most recently announced.
