Gran Turismo Sport is the first in the franchise to hit the PS4 console and Sony expects it will sell very well when it comes out later this year.
Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Kenichiro Yoshida, mentioned at the the company’s earnings briefing that sales increased by 14 percent thanks to the strong performance of Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End. He did not announce an update to the game’s sales, but he said the game sold 2.7 million units in its first week.
Since Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sold so well earlier this year, Sony now has high expectations for its other PS4 exclusives coming out in 2016 such as Gran Turismo Sport. He said since PS4 sales are increasing, there should be an “upward trend” in sales for first party games. He then concluded that the company has high expectations for what it has in store later this year.
Sony has a lot more new first-party titles this year compared to 2015 and 2014. Later this year, Sony will be releasing The Last Guardian, Gravity Rush 2 and the aforementioned Gran Turismo Sport. Not to mention the PlayStation VR titles and other games that will be out.
