The Sony PS4 console is still going strong in the year of 2016. The console managed to ship over 3.9 million units between the months of July until September 2016.

Sony released its huge financial results via a PDF file. When comparing the shipments to the same quarter in 2015, they are slightly down. July until September 2015 shipped over 4 million PS4 units. They were only down this year by around 100,000 units.

If you want a total result, Sony has now shipped over 47.4 million PS4 consoles by the end of September 30th, 2016. This number is sure to grow even higher with the upcoming release of the PS4 Pro.

Sony is still forecasting to ship over 60 million consoles by the end of March 31st, 2017. This means the company anticipates to sell a lot of units during the upcoming Holiday season. With the Pro and PlayStation VR headset leading the way, this is very feasible.

Sony will only face stiffer competition next year. The Nintendo Switch is out in March 2017 while Microsoft’s Xbox Scorpio console is due out in late 2017. It should be an exciting time to be a gamer next year with all the new hardware coming our way.
