Telltale Games has confirmed that The Walking Dead Season 3 will allow you to import your save from Seasons 1 and 2. This might be expected by many players at this point, but given that The Walking Dead Season 3 has the subtitle of “A New Frontier” there were those who thought the developer would be blazing a new path. They still sort of are, promising that Season 3 will be a great place for beginners to start, but they won’t be abandoning longtime players at all.
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see just how impactful this import is. It has varied in the past, with Season 1 having a large impact on some events in Season 2, but the DLC having almost nothing altered. With Season 2 having a few very different endings, some details might be left out of the import process, in favor of a few minor callbacks.
One other concern is that a lot has happened since the release of The Walking Dead Season 2. Many players likely started the series on one platform, say Xbox 360, and have since moved to a different one, such as Xbox One. Telltale hasn’t clarified the options yet, but they seem to be saying that there will be something for them, promising “multiple save import options” and that more details will be coming soon.
Telltale has started developing their own platform, outside of the consoles and PC, so perhaps that will be leveraged here to import save across generations, and maybe even across the various manufacturers. We’ll have to wait and see on that though, so check back for more as The Walking Dead Season 3 marches toward its December 20th release date.
