Fans of the original XCOM: Enemey Unknown were extremely disappointed when its sequel was announced as a PC exclusive at launch. Thankfully that exclusivity has come to an end with 2K Games and Firaxis revealing not only that XCOM 2 will be heading to PS4 and Xbox One, but the full release date.
“We are deploying to a new battlefield, Commander,” reads the announcement tweet. “XCOM2 is coming to Xbox One and PS4 on September 6.”
Speaking of the decision to bring XCOM 2 to consoles, Firaxis Games Creative Director Jake Solomon said “you may have heard a member of the team say, “XCOM 2 is not coming out for consoles.” Every forum post, passionate tweet, Facebook message, and letter about getting XCOM 2 on console was heard loud and clear. We have diehard console-focused fans who let us know in every way possible they wanted to play the game too. That’s dedication we wouldn’t ignore. So we’re thrilled to finally fulfill one of the game’s top requests: XCOM 2 will be available for PS4 on September 6, 2016 in North America and September 9, 2016 internationally.”
XCOM 2 made a huge splash on PC, garnering fantastic reviews (including our own), and satisfying the traditionally hard-to-please hardcore strategy fans. The game featured a lot of new elements, including new enemies, technology, and mechanics. On top of this was the shift in the storyline, where XCOM was now fighting as an insurgent force against the already dominant alien forces.
Players have to work against the clock, defeating the aliens when possible, but ultimately trying to prevent them from completing their final project. With dynamically generated maps and missions, no single play through of the main campaign is like any other, allowing for endless replayability with intricate strategy gameplay.
XCOM 2 hits PS4 and Xbox One on September 6th and is available now on PC.
